Jewellery Care and Repair
We undertake all aspects of jewellery repairs in-house, from our secure and fully equipped workshops. Our apprentice trained Goldsmiths have many years experience of jewellery design and repair and fully appreciate what is required to restore your jewellery back to its former glory.
Our Goldsmiths enjoy a challenge and no job is too complicated, too big or too small! Each piece will be examined and then we will email or call you with a free, no obligation estimate, so you are fully aware of what work is to be carried out and how much it will cost. If you are not entirely happy with the estimate then we'll post your jewellery back to you, free of charge.
Should you proceed with your repair you will be guaranteed a first class service. We use only the finest quality materials and our jewellery repairs are only released back to you after they have passed through a rigorous quality control process. You can be confident that any repair that we return is a repair that will last. In addition, when you get your item back we supply you with a full description of the item where it was hallmarked, its weight and measurements for your records and for your peace of mind all of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months.

Jewellery Cleaning
Each item of jewellery has its own unique properties and although it may be safe to clean your jewellery using general instructions some stones, like Emerald for example do need special care because of treatment processes that are applied to the stone during it cutting procedure.
For full details of our jewellery cleaning instructions may we suggest you contact us or alternatively see our Gemstone Encyclopaedia for further instructions on caring for your jewellery.
Browns' Valuation Service
A Browns valuation contains a full description of your item of jewellery should it be lost or stolen or even destroyed in an accident. It will also contain the replacement value for the item at the date the valuation is completed so should something happen to your jewellery, in the future, you will have a detailed written record of how much the item is worth.
There are many types of jewellery valuations, our skilled team have many years experience within the jewellery industry can help you make the right decision for the type of valuation you require.
1. Jewellery valuation for insurance purposes.
An insurance company may ask you to have an item of jewellery independently valued should it fall outside your current policy cover; an example would be if you had a limit of £ 1, 500 per item covering your house hold items but an item of jewellery, an engagement ring perhaps is worth £ 2,000. This would then be covered under the special items of your policy.
2. Post loss valuation.
These styles of valuation are required should an item be lost or stolen, they can also be used for damaged items that may still be repaired. All prices offered on this style of jewellery valuation will be at today's market price for either replacement or repair purposes.
Browns Jewellers do not charge for these styles of valuation, we can also deal directly with your insurance company so as to ease the stress you suffer.
3. Valuation for private sale.
Typically a private sale valuation is used when you wish to purchase an item from a third party, these valuation tend to be slightly lower than the market price as a jeweller makes the assumption that he or she is buying the jewellery for sale.
4. Valuation for probate.
A probate valuation is used for items that have been left in a deceased estate and is used to determine an items value for allocation as stated in the will.
Values from this style of valuation are usually based around the prices of a private or auction sale.
If you would like further information please contact us, our Valuation Team will be more than happy to answer your questions.
