Dazzling Jewellery at the Met Gala 2016
12th May 2016
Award season is one of my favourite times of the year, and the Met Gala 2016 didn’t disappoint! Large gems and vivacious diamonds dazzled in the spotlight of the Met Gala carpet. Celebrities’ antique and vintage jewellery picks This year’s jaw-dropping stones were large and chunky, in keeping with the theme ‘Manus x Machina; fashion in the age of technology’; celebrities were adorned with enormous, antique style, jewellery pieces from head to toe. Anna Wintour, editor of American vogue, sported a stunning floral antique necklace, featuring old European cut diamonds in flower clusters. Each cluster alternated with a three diamond drop. I love how this necklace has been kept in its original condition; the lovely dark, antique metal colour oozes sophistication. (This must also be one of Anna’s favourite pieces as she sported this diamond set pendant at the Oscars party in 2015.) Anna’s daughter, Bee Shaffer, certainly follows in her mother’s (extremely stylish) footsteps, particularly in her love of antique jewellery. She stunned in a glittering diamond embellished headpiece and floriated diamond drop earrings. Sarah Jessica Parker, never one to shy away from making a statement, opted for a large diamond embellished cameo, ornamented with exceptional antique agate and turquoise articulating from a collaret of old mine cut diamonds. She matched this outstanding necklace with antique mine cut diamond earrings and vintage diamond rings; the combination really works. Nicole Kidman looked fabulous in her 19th century diamond tiara, kept in its authentic, original condition. Nicole also supplemented her look with a stunning antique rose cut diamond cluster ring. Who shone the brightest? All of these stars shone bright on the red carpet but there was one star that shone the brightest! Claire Danes may not have had the largest diamond but she certainly deserves a mention; we all wish we could channel Cinderella at the ball and she looks every inch the Disney princess in her lit up Zac Posen gown! Needless to say the Met Gala 2016, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will be one of the highlights of 2016; we were in love with all the antique and vintage jewellery that adorned our favourite celebs. Drop us a comment to let us know what your favourite look was. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing lots more sparkle on the red carpet throughout 2016!
