The stars of the Olympics 2016 and their dazzling jewellery
02nd Aug 2016
Is everyone ready for the excitement and buzz of this year’s 2016 Olympics? 306 events in 19 days, with so much gold, silver and bronze to be had. (We love our metals especially in medal form!) The beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer and the Copacabana will be the backdrop for the showpiece event of the sporting calendar in just 3 days. We are very excited that Omega are the official timekeepers of Rio 2016 Olympics, and even more excited that we have managed to get our hands on a couple of the 2016 limited edition watches. First up is he Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016, a stunningly crafted watch that features a chronograph representing the three medals. The three sub dials are crafted in gold, silver and bronze. The perfectly designed three medal counters are offset perfectly by the black matte dial, whilst the marked scale illuminates the watch from behind. This fabulous watch is certainly a gold medal winner for us; equipped with an Omega calibre 3330, this watch has been made to run and run! We have also managed to get our hands on the fabulous Seamaster Diver 300 M “Rio 2016”. This watch is certainly inspired by the dynamic spirit of Rio de Janeiro and the iconic montage of the Copacabana sidewalks with their fabulous curvy design that is represented in the waved dial. The bright green, red, blue and yellow numbers marked on the watch dial are expressive of the colours of the Olympic rings. We can’t wait to see some of the stars of the 2016 Olympics wearing these racy watches, they really are an iconic collective piece. Micheal Phelps – one of omega’s ambassadors, and the most prolific Olympian of all time with 22 medals - has been seen wearing the Omega Seamaster. Phelps holds the world record for the Men’s 100m and 200m butterfly and is coming out of retirement for the Rio 2016 Olympics, setting himself a final challenge at this year’s Olympics, “I’m 30 years old and swimming almost faster than I ever have before,” He is certainly hungry to add to his record -e salute you Phelps! We hope that he will still be wearing the classic Omega Seamaster this year too. C:\Users\Njenkinson\Desktop\DSC03313.jpg Usain Bolt – nicknamed 'Lightning Bolt',is the most famous track and field athlete in the world, possibly of all time, and is definitely one to watch this year in Rio. The six time Olympic gold medallist is no stranger to a bit of ‘bling’, and always has a hefty gold chain around his neck on the track. The large curbesque chains are so hefty, we’re surprised he isn’t slowed down by the weight! Usain’s love of gold is clear for all to see, and so far at the Olympics no other metal will do! 20” Plain Curb Necklace This superb 9 carat antique yellow gold chain necklace certainly channels Usain Bolt’s style. The necklace has an impressive gauge of gold. Serena Williams – Not only known for her amazing tennis ability, but also her incredible outfits and accessories; she certainly brings more to the court then just a killer serve. Serena Williams is no stranger to competing whilst wearing a bit of sparkle. The darling of Flushing Meadows has been caught playing in some fabulous diamond pieces which include diamond chandelier earrings valued at $40,000. The beautiful diamond drop earrings looked like something you would expect to see in a gala, embellished with 13 carats of yellow and bright white diamonds perfectly set in platinum. In 2006 Serena proved that the court wasn’t just about the standard sweatband and hat when she walked out in a large diamond choker and some gold hooped earrings. The tennis court is certainly the equivalent to the red carpet for this star. We love Serena’s courageous accessorising and look forward to seeing which ensembles she steps out in next week at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Diamond drop earrings These diamond drop earrings are show-stopping, and are definitely something that Serena would wear on the court, boasting 0.54 carats in total with dazzling bright white diamonds. We love the idea of bringing red carpet glamour to the 2016 Olympics. Michael Johnson – ok, so Michael may not be on the track anymore but we are expecting to see him in the commentary box and couldn’t not pay homage to his Olympian days. Johnson is no stranger to the large regal gold chain which he would wear every race, complementing his famous golden footwear. These days Michael Johnson is more suited and booted, and can only be described as an Olympian legend. We are extremely excited for the Olympics and can’t wait to sit down and watch the opening ceremony; if it is anything like Rio’s carnival then we are in for a treat. Can’t wait to see which stars are going to be dazzled in jewels this year; but one things for sure, they'll all share our passion for gold!
